Nestled high in the Southern Rockies sits Red River, New Mexico
Originally a rough and tumble gold town, Red River has become a popular four
season destination. Summer visitors flock to our cool 8,750 foot mountain
climate for relief from the heat and enjoy fishing, hiking, horseback riding,
camping, shopping, and family fun. Fall is perhaps the most beautiful time
of the year in Red River. The air is cool and crisp as the aspens turn from
shimmering green to hues of orange, red and yellow. In the Winter, Red River
receives an average annual snowfall of nearly 18 feet. The base of our 57
trail ski area is located in the middle of town and rises up to an elevation
of 10,350 feet. Miles of snowmobile trails around Red River take the adventurous
to Greenie Peak, Midnight Meadows, Pioneer Canyon, and Goose Lake. In the
Spring as winter loosens it’s icy grip, the mountains and meadows come alive.
Rafting the Rio Grande is an experience not to be missed! The Spring runoff
turns the river into a natural roller coaster that would jump-start anyone’s
heart. With a year round population of approximately 400 residents, Red River
is still a down to earth and affordable resort town.
